  • Walter L. Harris
    Chairman and CEO

    Mr. Harris is the  Chairman  and the Chief Executive Officer of T&H Group Inc., one of the largest privately held insurance brokerage firms in the country.  Headquartered in New York City, T&H Group specializes in commercial property/casualty insurance, surety bonding as well as employee benefits.  Mr. Harris’ other business interests include an excess and surplus lines brokerage firm, a reinsurance intermediary and a brokerage firm that specializes in entertainment insurance.  He also acts as an advisor to investors in insurance entities and has a particular expertise in alternative risk financing, including captive insurance companies.  In addition, Mr. Harris has acted as special counsel in several major insurance coverage litigations.

    Mr. Harris is a member of the Board of Directors of Loews Corporation and serves as the Chair of the Loews audit committee.  He has also led the pricing committee in connection with a significant spin-off from Loews.  Mr. Harris is a member of the Board of Directors of Metropolitan National Bank, a federally chartered bank and serves on its audit committee.  He also serves on the Board of American Progressive Life and Health Insurance Company of New York.  Mr. Harris is a past President of the Insurance Brokers Association of New York.  He previously served on the Boards of CNA Financial Corporation, Universal American Financial Corporation and New York Federal Savings Bank.

    Mr. Harris’ civic and non-profit activities include serving as a trustee and member of the Executive Committee of the Citizens Budget Commission, a non-partisan organization dedicated to influencing constructive change in the finances and services of New York City and New York State government; serving on the Board of Directors of Summer on the Hill, a year-round enrichment program for academically talented, disadvantaged children in New York City; and serving on the Board of the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds, which operates three day camp facilities in New York for over 7,000 New York City area children.  Mr. Harris was President of the Board of the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds from November 1997 through November 2003.

    Mr. Harris received Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University in l974 and a JD from the University of California at Berkeley in 1977.  He also received an LLM in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 1982.

  • Richard J. Fleder
    President
     Richard J. Fleder is the President of T&H Brokers. Since 1996, Richard has served as President and CEO of T&H Benefits. After leading that organization to monumental growth, he was named President of T&H Brokers in October of 2009.
     
    Richard began hiscareer in 1975 at T&H Brokers (Tanenbaum-Harber) whichwould become the present day T&H Benefits. In 1980, he was named Executive Vice President of T&H, responsible for their employee benefits division and formed T&H Benefits in 1996.
     
    Before leading T&H Benefits, Richard helped found Comprehensive Benefits Service Company (”CBSC”) a third party claims administrator in 1986. He was named president of CBSC in 1986. While helping CBSC achieve this success, he continued to run the benefits operation of T&H Brokers. In 1986, CBSC was sold to Employee Benefits Plans, Inc. (”EBP”), the largest third party administrator in the country. EBP was based in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. In 1992, Richard became president of the largest health plan of EBP. In 1996, EBP was sold to First Data Corporation. He declined an offer to remain with the new company, and opted to form Thesco Benefits (now T&H Benefits).
     
    Richard graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in 1976. Shortly thereafter, he received the CLU designation from the American College of Insurance. Richard was a member of the HMO Board of Directors of Oxford Health Plans. He was the sole member of the brokerage and consulting community to sit on this Board. He has been a member of the National Advisory Council of Aetna, CIGNA, HealthNet and UnitedHealthcare.
  • John S. Beres
    Chief Operating Officer
     

    John Beres is an Executive Vice President of T&H Group and serves as the Chief Operating Officer of T&H Brokers. His responsibilities include driving process enhancement, operating efficiencies and executing a growth strategy throughout the firms operations.

    Previously, he was a Senior Vice President at T&H Brokers where he oversaw the large account practice including the supervision of all aspects of account management, client relations and business development initiatives. Prior to that John served as the Managing Director of Specialty Products for Tanenbaum-Harber, leading a team of Executive Risk specialists concentrating on the production, design, placing and servicing of the professional and management liability insurance programs for all of Tanenbaum-Harber’s corporate accounts.

    From 1998 up until September 2003 certain Lloyd’s of London Underwriters appointed John to act as an underwriting manager for Professional Indemnity and Employment Practices Liability products.

    John is a member of a number of organizations and societies including the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) where he served as vice chairman of the Eastern Chapter Steering Committee; he is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Ethical Culture Fieldston School and serves on the UJA Federation of New York’s Insurance Division Committee.

    John joined Tanenbaum-Harber in 1985, prior to which he received his BA from Clark University, Worcester, Massachusetts.

  • James V. Mannino
    Executive Vice President

    James V. Mannino is Executive Vice President of T&H Group, Inc and Chief Marketing Officer for all Property & Casualty of T&H Group. Jim’s responsibilities include acting chief liaison and relationship manager for all P&C Insurance Company relations, licensing, assignments and underwriting authorities through all branches of T&H Group

    Jim’s 25 plus years of experience, along with his excellent reputation with all national & regional insurers, offers him the tools necessary in the negotiation of competitive and complex insurance placements. He is also a member of several insurance company producer councils.

    Jim has received a BS degree in Business Finance from Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.) and an M.B.A. in Risk Management from St. Johns University College of Insurance.
